The Impact of your giving continues – May 2020

Posted on May 2, 2020 by David Lomasney

During this difficult time of limited; travel, work and even family contact, I am thankful for each of you that support our work and for our partners in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Mexico.

In Guatemala, the government has gone to extraordinary measures to stop the spread of Covid-19, including curfews, halting public transportation, not allowing travel between different departments (similar to counties), and closing the border to citizens of the US and other countries. However, projects are still moving forward, albeit slower than normal. At one point, our well driller was forced to stop in the middle of drilling a well on our property. He has since completed our well and has drilled another this week, putting him back on track to drill one well each month for Integrity International.

Our construction efforts in Guatemala continue, as well. The local Guatemalan churches are doing most or all of the work, which is in line with our current philosophy of being a help and not a sole provider. On our own property there, construction of a water tower is in process. We will have a system to supply the water needs of our planned Guatemalan ministry center, which will include a church, mission team house, technical training center and potentially other homes and ministry buildings.

In Nicaragua, our partners are doing an amazing work of feeding tens of thousands of people (mostly children) one meal a day through their network of feeding centers, in cooperation with their partner Lesea Global “Feed the Hungry”. It’s easy to understand that during this crisis their attention has shifted from church construction to helping as many people as possible. In the future we will resume our construction efforts there.

In Mexico our ministry partner is Operation Serve International. They normally host many mission teams from the US each summer. They have shifted their plans, engaging their Mexican teams to work without us during this time of restricted travel.

Personally, my family and I are well. After being laid off for a month, Kathy was called back to work today (she works in electronic medical records administration). We are all healthy and trusting the Lord for a great 2020.

Be encouraged! God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. It’s understandable to be cautious, careful, and wise, and to do all of those things our mothers taught us as children regarding our health and hygiene. However, if you are in fear, reach out to someone, because fear is not healthy.

Blessings to you and yours. Please know that we are praying for you.
