Guatemala Medical Mission in September
During the last week of September, Vicki Augustiniak, RN led a small but amazing team of dedicated people providing medical care in Guatemala. Our Michigan based team of one doctor, two nurses, one translator and I, were joined by about 10 Guatemalans each day. One doctor, several nurses, and several evangelists who have also been trained in basic medical intervention through Vicki’s partnership with Teach to Transform. The local churches provided support as we worked together to be a blessing to each community. Something as simple as vitamins or blood pressure medication was received with gratitude by each person.

One of my favorite interactions was with a mom that was walking past Pastor Amilcar’s church and heard that something unusual was happening there, “a medical clinic”. She had been wondering that morning how she was going to get the supplies that she needed to care for her daughter who had an open wound due to a medical procedure. She told us she did not have any money to pay for the things she needed. The good news was we didn’t want or need any money. We just wanted to bless her and her daughter in Jesus’ name. Our new friend and co-worker (a nurse) Alejandra gave her everything she needed in abundance to the point that the mom was overwhelmed with gratitude.

That’s our Lord Jesus making a way for a mom to receive all she needed and for us to fulfill our call to good works.

To be clear, we don’t pursue good works to earn the Lord’s favor, but because having accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior we already have the Lord’s favor, and seek to share His goodness with every person.
